Humpback whales are on their way to Queensland, with Visit Sunshine Coast saying the destination will see up to 40,000 whales pass by during the season which runs to Nov.
This year there’s a new experience for clients centered around whale song, from sound artist Dr Leah Barclay. Sunreef has launched a new Tallo Billa: Deep Listening at Dusk cruise which will take place on 24 Aug, and 21 and 28 Sep. The small-group cruises will sail ex Mooloolaba and will combine whale watching with deep listening of whale song through hydrophones, which is mixed live by Dr Barclay. Storytelling and didgeridoo by Lyndon Davis will also feature. Sunreef will also host a special departure of this cruise on 13 Sep, which will feature the aforementioned as well as First Nations storytelling and projections onto the rock face of Mudjimba Island.
