Tonga is eyeing up the Kiwi market as its national tourism organisation reveals a new focus on bolstering its tourism industry.
To get the Pacificisland destination front and centre again, The Tonga Tourism Association (TTA) is attending roadshows and developing a travel agent training portal. TTA Australia/New Zealand trade manager Richard Skewes says the moves will re-establish Tonga as a must-sell destination for holidaymakers looking for authentic Pacific experiences. “We’re not just back,” says Skewes “we’re back with purpose, passion, and the kind of presence that drives bookings.” The first step is the South Pacific Tourism Exchange in May, where the association says it will have a ‘major presence’. The NTO has also joined the Treasures of the South Pacific collective to further promote the region including an Australia/ New Zealand roadshow this year. TTA will return to Auckland again later in the year hosting a joint roadshow with the Solomon Islands.
. . . Trainings
In addition to the in-person events, the TTA is launching an on-line agent training portal offering specialist education on Tonga’s tourism offering from access and accommodation to culture and activities. “This isn’t just about visibility,” says Skewes. “It’s about equipping the industry with the tools and knowledge they need to sell Tonga confidently and correctly.”
