Queensland welcomed a record number of Kiwi visits in 2024, with the Gold Coast proving a massive drawcard for the destination bolstered by improving air connectivity.
New data from Australia’s International Visitor Survey shows more than 251,000 New Zealanders travelled to Queensland in 2024, with 146,000 Gold Coast-bound, up 19.8% from 2023 and surpassing 2019 numbers by 5.6%.

The strong Kiwi demand looks likely to continue, as Tourism & Events Queensland notes expanded direct flights and a ‘stacked calendar of must-attend events’. Upcoming Queensland events include the Magic Round Brisbane (01-04 May) catering to rugby league fans, and for foodies Noosa Eat + Drink is on 29 May-01 Jun, which includes acclaimed Kiwi chef Josh Emett, as well as Sunshine Coast’s Curated Plate on 25 Jul-03 Aug. The Pacific Airshow Gold Coast, which features aerial displays takes place in the skies above Surfers Paradise 15-17 Aug; while for supercar fans, the Gold Coast 500 is on 24-26 Oct and Townsville 400 on 11-13 Jul.
