Gorilla tracking in Uganda just got more affordable, as Viva Expeditions advises that the Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced discounted permits for gorilla and chimpanzee tracking over Uganda’s wetter months of Apr, May and Nov.

The new gorilla permit is USD600 and the chimpanzee permit USD200, around $1037 and $345 respectively, with Viva’s Africa product manager Tanya Gurtin saying this presents an appealing option for travellers with an eye on their budget.
While there can be more rain and trekking conditions may be muddier, the forests are lush and visitor numbers are lower.
For travellers who don’t mind the occasional shower, she says ‘it’s a wonderful time to experience Uganda’s remarkable gorilla trekking with fewer people and excellent value’.
The timing also pairs well with broader East African itineraries, including those with safaris in Tanzania and Kenya, where newborn wildlife and abundant birdlife create ‘unforgettable sightings’ and photo opportunities, she adds.
However, the low-season permits cannot be rescheduled once issued. Learn more HERE.
. . . Increase
While low season viewing is dropping in price, other experiences are increasing.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority is increasing the extended gorilla habituation experience to USD1800, or $3111, while chimpanzee tracking permits in Kibale National Park will rise to USD300, or $518.49, from 01 Jan 2027.
Standard gorilla tracking permits will remain at USD800, around $1383.
