Sleep disruptions, which can be triggered by new environments or a companion’s worsened snoring, can take the shine off a relaxing holiday says a sleep expert.

The Goodnight Co. sleep specialist Shea Morrison says many Kiwis are travelling for rest and relaxation, but New Zealand sleep data shows that snoring and sleep-disordered breathing are common issues.
“Poor sleep is one of the biggest travel stressors,” she says. “Whether it’s the red light on the aircon keeping you awake, or waking up in a new environment.”
. . . Alcohol
She says alcohol, fatigue and dehydration can also disrupt sleep, which can be inherent factors for many travellers.
“When you don’t get a good night’s sleep, it can impact your mood and energy. Whether you’re on a jam-packed adventure holiday or a relaxing one, it can interfere with any of those things when you’re not feeling great.”
. . . Sleep Packages
InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is on a quest to combat sleep disruption for its guests and has introduced its new The Sweet Dreams Package, launched on 13 Mar for World Sleep Day.
The package includes a pre- arrival sleep consult with Morrison, a Sweet Dreams Kit including eye masks, nasal strips, mouth tape, magnesium oil and a deep sleep blend, with standard inclusions such as accommodation for two, daily breakfast and access to all the resort’s facilities.
Morrison says there has been a great response in terms of bookings so far. “It’s a unique offering, especially with the growing demand for global wellness tourism. The Sweet Dreams Package is about normalising those challenges and giving travellers simple, practical tools that genuinely support better rest, so they can wake up feeling refreshed and actually enjoy their time away.”
