IHG Steadfast In Its Trade Focus

Kiwi visitation to the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is up, despite an overall dip in Kiwi visitations to Fiji, which the property’s Ashkay Singh attributes in part to travel agents.

More than 50% of its bookings from this market are via the trade, says former Flightie Singh, who adds that the property is very lucky to have the support of agents across the country.

“For the last four years we’ve really pushed ahead with supporting travel agents, when some other hotels have pulled away towards more online,” he tells Travel Today.

“They’ve been a key part of our success over the past four years.”

As such, Singh says the property has launched activities to further support agencies, including a cinematic training video launched last year.

The hotel also hosted 11 global trade famils in Mar alone and has an annual incentive offering top selling consultants free getaways.

. . . Agent Rates

He also urges those agents who have not yet visited the property to do so, with discounts available.

“Usually we try to offer at least one free night, and then an industry rate for the second night,” he says. “We’re a huge believer that coming and visiting themselves makes a massive difference.”

Kiwis account for 15% of all bookings, and Singh says they’re easy-going guests. And while eco nomic conditions here are tough Kiwis are still spending.

With this agent focus and Kiwi market growth in mind, Singh has a big goal. “We want to be the easiest partner to work with in Fiji.” See the resort’s sales kit HERE, and watch the training video HERE.
