Great Deals, Same Anaheim Magic

Visit Anaheim has addressed the current US travel ‘headwinds’, but the tourism body is upbeat and has flagged plans to work closely with the Kiwi trade to ensure they can sell the bucket list destination with confidence.

“The [NZD-USD] exchange rate is improving, there’s plenty of air capacity and some competi tive deals in the market,” says the RTO’s visiting director tourism development Mike Young.

“We’ve also got accommodation options to suit most budgets and there’s a host of celebrations on, like Disneyland’s 70th and Disney California Adventure’s 25th, plus we’ve got the OCVibe development coming, the FIFA World Cup, and in 2028, the Olympics.”

New Zealand may be a small market, but Kiwi travellers stay an average 6.7-nights, and punch above their weight in terms of visitation, adds Young who is upbeat about the Kiwi presence to Anaheim in 2026.

“Anaheim is a destination built around tourism. Regardless of what you might see in the media— Anaheim is committed to its guests—it’s a destination built around magic, imagination and wonder, that hasn’t changed,” he says. In fact, there’s even a term, the ‘Mickey Bubble’, referring to how Disneyland Resort park guests can escape reality, and embrace the magic inside the parks, he adds.

And speaking of being a destination deeply invested in tourism, Young points out that the RTO has had a representative in New Zealand for the last 30 years—and reiterates the destination’s long-term commitment to the Kiwi trade through the highs and lows.

. . . Famils

“New Zealand is a mature market that knows the importance of travel. Travel is in your DNA—and we need you,” Young says to Kiwi agents. “We have several famils planned starting in Apr—and we also have our self-famil program.”

To participate in the famils and self-famils, consultants must have completed the specialist training. See details HERE. At the same time Young says an increasing number of visitors are using Anaheim as their ‘SoCal’ base, and making day trips to the likes of San Diego, Universal Studios and Catalina Island.
