A new report predicts that in the future travellers will no longer need to check-in for flights and will be instantly recognised at the airport, car rental, hotel and other stages of the trip thanks to one single identifier—paving the way for seamless travel.
Amadeus’ From DCS to Delivery: Fulfilling the retailing promise with traveler-centric journeys and better operations study found that the airline industry is already retiring traditional industry standards to make air travel more personalised, with Delivery Management Systems to gradually replace today’s Departure Control Systems. The new systems will transform the travel process in several areas. Amadeus says in many parts of the world check-in is likely to disappear as travellers arrive at the airport with any visa or border control checks already completed digitally. This means travellers will just drop their bag and proceed to airport security. This seamless process will continue throughout the rest of the journey. Rather than carrying multiple paper and digital documents, a traveller’s entitlements across the entire journey will be linked to a chosen identifier such as a passport or biometric identity, meaning it will no longer be necessary to continually explain who you are. And for disrupts, the report tips that travellers will get a single notification quickly that explains the airline’s recommended alternative travel option, with the ability to accept or reject digitally from their phone, with this to include rail and ground transport options.
