Atlanta Still King Of Busy Airports

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has retained its crown, once again the world’s busiest airport, followed by Dubai International Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

That’s according to Airports Council International (ACI) World’s 2024 rankings of the world’s busiest airports, which is released as initial data reveals that the 2024 global total of passengers is close to 9.5 billion. This is an increase of 9% from 2023, and of 3.8% from pre-pandemic levels. The top 10 airports collectively, which account for some 9% of global traffic, rose 8.8% on 2023 and 8.4% on 2019. ATL saw more than 109 million passengers in 2024, notably ahead of DXB which saw more than 92 million, and DFW which had nearly 88 million passengers passing through.

Joining ATL, DXB and DFW in the top 10 is Tokyo Haneda and London Heathrow, with this duo switching places in 2023. In sixth was Denver International Airport and seventh was Istanbul International Airport, in the same positions as 2023, while in eighth was Chicago O’Hare, up from ninth in 2023. New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport moved from 10th to ninth, while Shanghai Pudong International Airport saw the biggest jump, going from 21st in 2023 to the 10th spot in 2024.
