Hamad International Airport’s concourses D and E are now open — a move which will allow the Doha airport to cater for more than 65 million passengers annually.
DOH coo Hamad Ali Al Khater says the opening of concourses D and E marks a significant milestone in expanding the airport’s capacity and enhancing operational efficiency.
“This combined development streamlines passenger flow, optimises resource management, and strengthens airline connectivity, ensuring smoother and more efficient passenger services,” it says.
The new concourses integrate into the existing terminal, increasing its size by 14%. Highlights include 17 new aircraft contact gates, allowing the airport to accommodate a greater number of international carriers, and offer more direct routes.
DOH is using ‘cutting edge technology’, including self-boarding systems to streamline the boarding process, and smart technology to expedite document verification and reduce wait times.
The new concourses feature upgraded facilities including a wider selection of retail outlets and global dining brands, increased accessibility including hearing loops, barrier-free pathways, spacious seating areas, and dedicated assistance services. The opening of these concourses marks the final phase of an expansion project which began in 2018, and includes Orchard, DOH’s 6000m2 indoor tropical garden.
