Explore Australia In Autumn Via Bike

Australia may be famous as the place where you snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and soak up the sun of Bondi, but Australian Cycle Tours argues it’s also a great cycling destination, especially over autumn.

Australian Cycle Tours offers self-guided and guided cycle experiences across Australia, and brand manager Erin Wileman says it’s a sector seeing growing enthusiasm.

Investment in cycle infrastructure and the surge in e-bike popularity are making cycle travel more accessible than ever, she adds. “We’re seeing increasing demand for cycle tourism, particularly in regions embracing rail trails and bike-friendly travel, offering cyclists a unique and sustainable way to explore Australia.”

For Kiwis, now if the time to try this style of holiday, as Wileman notes that autumn offers crisp air, golden foliage, and fewer crowds.

Top autumn picks include the self-guided Central West Cycle Trail which follows a 400km loop through New South Wales’ Central West region. There are seven- and five-day options, including e-bike rentals and luggage transfers, and stays in cosy country pubs and family-run motels along the way.

In South Australia, options include the self-guided two-day Clare Valley Short Cycle Break, along the scenic Riesling Trail with stops at renowned wineries; while in Victoria, there’s the four-day Great Victorian Rail Trail, a self-guided 134km ride along Australia’s longest continuous rail trail. It explores the Goulburn River, Trawool Valley, and the Victorian High Country including the historic Alexandra Station.
