Eurail On What’s Trending, And Kiwis

Eurail has added new routes for Kiwis to book in 2025 in response to growing demand.

According to Eurail’s data, some 7000 New Zealanders used a Eurail pass in 2024, with these Kiwis taking an average of 14 different train journeys per Eurail trip, and spending an average of 8.3 hours on board European trains.

Leading the charge, it says, was the youth sector, with those aged 27 years or less accounting for 44% of Kiwi Eurail travel, followed by those aged 28-59 years at 34%.

And 68% of those Kiwis travelled in a second class cabin last year. The most popular Eurail Pass category for New Zealand travellers was the ‘10 Days in 2 Months’ Pass, with this likely due to our propensity to spend an extended amount of time in Europe, says the rail specialist.

The most popular city destinations visited by New Zealand Eurail Passholders last year were Milan, Amsterdam, Venice, Florence and Rome.

. . . New

As for new routes coming in 2025, highlights include the new cross-border connection between Venice and Nova Gorica, and regional rail carrier Koleje Małopolskie connecting Kraków to Tarnów and Zakopane; both of these are live now.

Eurail Passholders can now also access a connection between Vilnius and Rig and Tallinn.

Still to come is daily high-speed trains connecting Spain’s Barcelona with Toulouse in France via RENFE, which are expected to launch mid-2025.
