Viking’s chairman and ceo Torstein Hagen says the Viking Libra float out represents another milestone for Viking, with the ship the line’s most environmentally friendly vessel yet. “Investing in hydrogen was a principled choice for Viking, offering a true zero emission solution, and we look forward to welcoming the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship to our fleet.”

Viking Libra’s propulsion system is based partially on liquefied hydro gen and fuel cells will make her capable of navigating and operating with zero emissions, this, in turn, allowing her to access even the most environmentally sensitive areas.

The ship’s official debut is slated for Nov at which time she will boast 499 staterooms and sail the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

Her debut will be followed by that of Viking Astrea in 2027, which will also be hydrogen-powered and capable of operating with zero emissions. See HERE.
