Spontaneous & Solo Women Travelling

The number of women taking off overseas is increasing at pace, and so, too is their spontaneity and desire to go solo, shows new data from Trip.com Group.

The figures show that the number of women booking f lights globally has grown 13% year-on-year, with the average woman traveller taking one-to two international trips in 2025. This was led by women going to Southeast Asia.

Interestingly, the data also shows increasing spontaneity, with women said to be planning their trips later rather than earlier, with booking windows sitting at between two and six weeks.

More are choosing to travel solo, this led by women aged 25 to 34 years old heading to Southeast Asian countries. However, solo travel is also said to be showing significant gains in Italy and France among older women.

Short-haul flights and nearer destinations are still preferred, though long-haul flights are gaining traction at a faster pace, it says.

Safety remains a key fac tor when it comes to picking destinations—women want to travel places where they are confident in venturing out at night alone or using public transport.

. . . Family

It will come as no surprise to agents that women are often the ones leading the decisions when it comes to family travel.

The data shows women care most about flights with convenient schedules, child-friendly attractions, activities, and meal options.

When it comes to splashing out, women travelling with their family are most likely to spend big on guaranteed family seating on a plane, all-inclusive family pack ages, and larger family suites or connecting rooms.
