The use of power banks is expected to be banned on domestic and international passenger flights to, from and through Japan and South Korea. For Japan, this ban is reportedly effective from Apr.

Korean Air says power banks may not be used or charged on board its flights and must be stored in the seat pocket. This has been effective since 26 Jan; see HERE. According to widespread reports, three other Korean airlines have also tightened their rules regarding power banks.
. . . From Air NZ
Air New Zealand says the changes applying to international carriers for travel to/from Japan and South Korea are yet to be confirmed.
But NZ chief safety and risk officer Nathan McGraw says the airline has seen reports regarding proposed changes for flights to, from and through the countries and is reviewing what this means for NZ. “[NZ] complies with all regulatory requirements in the countries we operate to, including any restrictions that apply in their airspace and at their airports. If changes are confirmed, we will implement them and communicate clearly with customers ahead of travel,” he says.
