Auckland Airport reminds agents that its international check-in is changing from Thu, with the opening of temporary pavilion check-in Zone T, as part of a new check-in facility development within the main international terminal.

Located adjacent to the trans port hub, Zone T has 28 traditional check-in counters and is a two-step process for travellers. Passengers allocated to the Zone T pavilion will check-in and have their bags weighed once.
They will then take their checked bags into the terminal to the Zone B bag drop area, to be re-weighed. AKL head of customer Debbie Giles says the introduction of this zone system and temporary Zone T check-in will allow AKL to maintain capacity while it builds a new Zone C check-in area with self-serve kiosks and automatic bag drops.
Zone T is expected to operate alongside the main check-in terminal (Zones A, B, D and E) during the 1600-2100 peak period most days over the northern summer season, says AKL senior areo and operations stakeholder manager Vanessa Traille.
Usage is then expected to increase for the northern winter season to include the midday-to-early-afternoon peak, when flights with check-ins from 1030 could be using Zone T.
She says the times Zone T is operating and the airlines using it will be subject to change throughout the year. The temporary facility is expected to operate for two and a half years.
. . . Which Zone?
The zones inside the terminal will still be operating, bar Zone C. Agents can see which check-in zone their clients need to use via the AKL website 24 hours before the corresponding flight.
Additional staff will be positioned in the Transport Hub from Thu to guide passengers to their correct check-in zones, and there’s also new signage and flight information displays to remind passengers to check their zone.
AKL staff will continue to assess how Zone T is working for passengers, she adds. See a video of the journey between Zone T and Zone B HERE.
