The Kiwi agents on board Avalon’s training charter cruise are getting to ‘touch, feel and taste’ every aspect of the product on a Rhine cruise this week—and that includes experiencing some of its Active and Discovery options, says Globus family of Brand’s head of commercial Australasia Brett Simon.

“Active and Discovery is a real focus for us, and the offering probably suits Kiwis more than anyone else; we’re pretty adventurous travellers,” says Simon.
The concept features excursions and onboard inclusions that are geared to the active relaxer from fitness classes to day tours including active options, such as walks and bike rides as well as more in-depth excursions designed to discover a local region.
“It suits a younger demographic… and while they’re beautiful ships, we don’t do shows but the whole point is that you’re in the heart of the destination and you’re able to get off and immerse yourself in the region—and really explore it differently,” says Simon.
Avalon now has adventure hosts on all of its ships and the brand’s average passenger age is skewing younger, with the increased demand for its Active and Discovery itineraries, says Simon.
“Gen X [guests] are now our fastest growing demo graphic at the moment. We’re also seeing repeat travellers who come back and do the same itinerary, but the way they see if is completely different because they’re biking through vineyards instead of taking a coach out.”
Avalon is continuing to add a growing number of Active and Discovery itineraries to its inventory to meet the demand. See details HERE.
