A Blooming Good Time In DC

There is no US city more synonymous with springtime than Washington, DC says its tourism body. Over the next couple of months there is a plethora of events to celebrate, including events for the country’s 250th birthday.

Cherry blossom is at peak bloom 29 Mar-01 Apr and this year there are 250 new trees to admire, a gift to the city from Japan. The blooming inspires pop-up bars, themed afternoon teas, seasonal food and drink menus, hotel offers and fun activations across the city.

This includes signature event the Pink Tie Party, the must attend soirée of the season, says Destination DC, where attendees dress in pink to match the blossom. Other events include the opening ceremony, Blossom Kite Festival, National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and Petalpalooza, a festival of live music, arts and play.

Local cultural institutions have exhibitions especially for the 250th celebration including the reopening of the historic carousel on the National Mall, Smithsonian Castle, a new museum beneath the Lincoln Memorial, National Geographic Museum of Exploration, African American Civil War Memorial Museum and the Air and Space Museum expansion.

. . . Dining

New restaurants have opened including Elegancia in La Cosecha, a partnership between actor Wilmer Valderrama and restaurateur Daniella Senior. Other springtime events in DC include sports tournaments, musical events, tours, markets and children’s events. See links HERE.
