Gavin Smith is the latest member of CLIA’s Hall of Fame, inducted at the weekend’s Cruise Industry Awards for Australasia.
Smith, vp and md Australia & New Zealand at Royal Caribbean, was recognised for his defining role in the evolution of the local cruise sector.
CLIA executive director Australasia Joel Katz says his commitment to this region and his unwavering support for the industry and its people have made an extraordinary difference.
Smith has welcomed the tribute, saying it is amazing to be honoured for doing something you love. “Every aspect of this industry is super exciting, and that’s what I suppose gets me out of bed and in there everyday.”
Receiving his award, Smith shared his excitement surrounding the happenings for Royal Caribbean in this market, including the Lelepa, the first private cruise destination in the southern hemisphere which is slated to open in Vanuatu in 2027.
