Sydney Airport’s move to building an integrated international and domestic operation has taken another step with the appointment of architects and engineers for the AUD6 billion T2-T3 link project.

Global architecture practice Grimshaw and international engineering consultancy Mott MacDonald are the lead consultants for the project.
The T2–T3 terminal link project is a key part of SYD’s preliminary draft Master Plan 2045, which forecasts growth to 72 million passengers annually by then.
The project will deliver up to 12 new international gates, alongside two additional gates at the T1 International terminal, providing more capacity, smoother connections for passengers and greater efficiency for airlines. Capacity for domestic and regional airlines will also be expanded. Grimshaw has experience across major airport projects including London Heathrow, Istanbul Airport, Lima, JFK, and Shenzhen.
SYD will face competition from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI), due to open later this year as a 24/7, curfew-free hub. SYD does have an overnight curfew.
