Ireland Embraces Slow Travel Demand

Tourism Ireland is embracing the slow travel trends declaring the island of Ireland as one of Europe’s most natural fits for travel focused on deeper, more meaningful experiences.

And the locals are backing up this claim, including Siobhán Ni Ghairbith, director at St Tola Goat Cheese Farm in County Clare. “The best moments visitors have here are never rushed…Ireland really shines when you take your time—it’s how you discover the heart of the place.” Barry Flanagan, owner of Lough Erne Water Taxi in County Fermanagh says visitors often tell him they come for the views—but it’s the quiet moments that stay with them. “We always say the best way to see Ireland is to take your time and leave room for the unexpected…that’s what travel in Ireland is all about.”

. . . Travel Tips

Tourism Ireland has some advice on travelling slowly throughout the destination. The first is allowing plenty of time to explore scenic routes such as the Causeway Coastal Route or the Ring of Kerry. Tip two is dining at farm-to-fork eateries and farmers’ markets across the country; and three is to opt for local experiences, such as the traditional music nights and storytelling in Gaeltacht regions. On the accommodation front, Tourism Ireland recommends staying at eco-retreats, boutique inns, and countryside B&Bs, of which there are plenty.
