Orient Express Adds A New Route

The Venice-Simplon Orient-Express has commenced service between Paris and Tuscany’s 1300ha farm estate Castello de Casole.

Operator the Belmond luxury holiday group says the train’s legacy as a trailblazer of slow luxury travel to iconic destinations including Amsterdam, Cannes, and Istanbul, further strengthens its presence in Italy. Both the train and Castello de Casole are in the Belmond portfolio, which is owned by LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton).

. . .The Journey

The three-night journey begins with a Champagne welcome, then pastries, tea and coffee. After dinner there are drinks and live piano music in Bar Car 3674.

In Florence after lunch the next day guests transfer to the mediaeval city of Siena for a private tour of its UNESCO-listed centre and an exclusive visit to the 13th-century Palazzo Pannocchieschi d’Elci overlooking the venue of the Palio di Siena horse race, and enjoy aperitifs in the palace’s tower into the evening.

The day ends at Castello De Casole among the grapevines and olive trees for a two-night stay. Following events include a Festa del Villaggio village celebration and sagra (outdoors/market)-style lunch, stargazing session and astro-tour, and guest experiences such as wellness activities, spa treatments, sound healing, biking, hiking and yoga. The price is from GBP9350pp for two guests on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and two nights in a Junior Suite at Castello di Casole.
