A replacement expedition vessel for G Adventures’ will operate the company’s upcoming Antarctica season which it says will offer an enhanced onboard experience.
The new 128-passenger ship, currently named Ocean Adventurer and chartered, will take on the ‘Expedition’ name in tribute to the previous vessel, which G Adventures describes as its much-loved ‘little red ship’.
Expedition will embark on its first G Adventures departure to Antarctica in Oct.

The 102m ship is built with an Ice Class 1A for reinforced safety and maneuverability, as well as a refurbished propulsion system and updated stabilisers (Sperry Gyrofin), which G says offers passengers a smoother ride and helps to reduce motion sickness during rough crossings. It has also been renovated to include new engines that are said to be significantly more fuel-efficient than its predecessor.
The more efficient vessel will make big advancements in the company’s climate goals, says G Adventures founder, Bruce Poon Tip.
“Our initial calculations estimate that the overall carbon footprint per person, per day will drop by up to 30% as we transition to the new ship. It will also give us the opportunity to evaluate our wider polar program and opportunities for expansion,” he states.
Onboard facilities include a restaurant and bar, 170m2 lounge, library, fitness area, observation and sun deck and outdoor jacuzzies. Multi-share and triple cabins are available.
The new Expedition will operate five Antarctica itineraries, including the 11-day Antarctica Classic, priced from $19,499pp; 21-day Spirit of Shackleton priced from $36,799pp; and the 22-day Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica which is from $33,099pp.
