Cathay Pacific is rebuilding its services to Auckland announcing plans to operate additional seasonal flights 02 Dec-28 Mar
The carrier’s flights between AKL and Hong Kong will increase from seven to 11 a week, approaching its pre-pandemic peak of twice daily. CX regional gm South-west Pacific, Frosti Lau says there is strong demand from AKL. “This growth is a credit to our dedicated team and comes as we celebrate a major milestone of reaching 100 travel destinations as the Cathay Group.”
. . . More To CHC
CX is also extending its seasonal service to a big cargo port, Christchurch, starting summer flights 03 Nov (rather than Dec), with four flights per week at its peak Dec-Feb, and three flights per week Nov and Mar. CHC ceo Justin Watson says the earlier start and increased frequency highlights the strength of the South Island market. “It means more choice, more convenience, and stronger ties to Asia and beyond,” adds Watson.
. . . Committed
Lau says the airline is committed to strengthening services in New Zealand. CX has been flying here for 42 years and pre C-19 was, at times, the biggest overseas long-haul carrier serving this market. AKL’s chief customer officer Scott Tasker says the Hong Kong hub is a popular connection point between New Zealand and Asia, Europe and Britain. The trade and tourism links provided by CX are vital.
. . . Trade Changes
CX has been approached for comment on how the carrier plans to work with the trade to sell these additional services following its recent staff changes in New Zealand. On Mon, CX told Travel Today its Southeast Asia and Southwest Pacific regions had been integrated into a Southeast Asia and Oceania region to strengthen its regional presence, and it would be in touch with its trade partners.
