The New Zealand Dollar is not getting any stronger, and with that in mind, some of New York City’s more affordable attractions are in the spotlight, and there’s even some free options.
Urge clients to start off their trip at the top. Edge, the Empire State Building, One World Observatory, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt and Top of the Rock Observation Deck all offer free admission for children aged five and under, when accompanied by an adult with a ticket, advises New York City Tourism + Conventions. New Victory Theater, located in Times Square, offers performances and family theatre classes that start from just USD23, with free pre-show art activities as well.

It’s also worth checking out free concerts across the city. At the same time, Lower Manhattan’s Battery Park features Sundays at the Showbox Apr-Oct, which includes free music, dance and puppet shows. The city also has numerous playgrounds for young families among the most notable, Governors Island’s Yard Adventure Playground and Pier 26 Science Playground in Hudson River Park. Then there’s Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park which is just USD3, Bryant Park’s Le Carrousel which is USD4 and the SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park, at USD6.

Museums are another affordable option, with Bronx Children’s Museum USD8 for children and USD14 for adults, Staten Island Children’s Museum is USD8, and admission to the Museum of the Moving Image is less than USD20. The Museum of the City of New York is free for those aged 18 and under, and offers free admission for all on Wed. While the New York Hall of Science offers free admission every Fri 1400-1700. The Whitney Museum of American Art offers free admission for visitors aged up to 25 and is free for all on Fri from 1700.
