Clients can enter their country era in Utah, with the Utah Office of Tourism highlighting the state’s western offerings, from herding to horse riding.
It comes as the state readies for the annual Bison Roundup, which is this year taking place 26 Oct-06 Nov. Held at Antelope Island State Park, less than one hour from Salt Lake City, clients who attend will be able to watch as hundreds of horseback riders round up nearly 700 bison.
The cowboys round up the bison herd for their yearly health check-up. For a true Western experience, the Utah Office of Tourism recommends clients combine this with horse riding. Rhodes Valley Outfitters offers guided horseback tours of Antelope Island year-round, with one- and two-hour tours available, tailored to client’s preferences and experience level.
. . . Responsible
For those who prefer to experience cowboy culture from a distance, it’s worth mentioning that Utah is also one of the few states in the USA where clients can responsibly view wild horses.
The state is home to 22 wild herds, but the one recommended to visit is the Onaqui Herd in Tooele County, just one hour west of Salt Lake City. The Onaqui Herd consists of almost 450 horses and is known for grazing within sight of dirt roads along the old Pony Express Trail.
When it comes to cowboy-style accommodation, there’s an array of dude ranches to recommend, including Defa’s Dude Ranch in the heart of Ashley National Forest, Zion Mountain Ranch which is located atop a buffalo meadow preserve, and The Lodge at Blue Sky Ranch (pictured), a more luxurious option.
