Ponant Cruises For Climate Change

Ponant is among those working to make a difference for climate change, hosting scientists on an Arctic Crossing last Sep, and this year clients have the chance to lend a hand as well.

As part of Ponant’s Science Program, 20 scientists sailed the Arctic Ocean from west to east aboard Le Commandant Charcot to study the impacts of global warming on the rapidly changing polar region.

Using the ship’s laboratories, the scientists were able to analyse water, ice and air samples, with guests able to see the sample collection process first hand, and attend scientific and round tables for further insight.

. . . 2025

The initiative will continue in 2025, with a similar transarctic expedition sailing for 20 nights ex Longyearbyen to Nome on 05 Sep; Transarctic, the Quest for the Two North Poles.

This will not be the only chance for clients to get involved with the science of climate change, as Ponant confirms it is working to make its entire fleet accessible for scientific research.

This year five ships will feature researchers on board working on projects, three of which are directly financed by Ponant Science.

The cruise line has also made Le Commandant Charcot available for research until 2029. See more on the Ponant Science program HERE.
