Walsh (pictured) started in airlines as a cadet pilot for Aer Lingus in the late 1970s. He is a former British Airways boss and will join IndiGo in Aug after serving as the IATA director general.

Pieter Elbers resigned as IndiGo’s ceo in Mar following a crisis that forced the airline to cancel thousands of flights.

IndiGo has about two thirds of the country’s domestic aviation market.

“The aviation landscape is evolving rapidly, and IndiGo is extremely well-positioned to be at the fore front of this change,” Walsh said following his appointment.
