A new report has analysed what travellers are looking for in 2025, and apartment-style accommodation and off-peak travel tops clients’ wish lists.
Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites’ forecast trends for 2025, based on guest data, found that travellers are placing increasing value on apartment-style accommodation that delivers excellent value for money and a ‘home away from home’ experience.
Minor Hotels Australasia chief operating officer Craig Hooley says this is especially the case for families, friend groups and multi-generational travellers. Oaks’ larger room types are often booked well in advance, particularly during peak periods, with four-bedroom apartments typically selling out first, it adds.
Shoulder and off-peak travel or mid-week escapes are trending due to enhanced availability, competitive pricing and off-peak seasonal deals. In fact, Oaks says that despite the rising cost of living, the appeal of seasonal deals and offers has never been stronger. Last-minute bookings are up, with travel booked within the next month up over the past 12 months. Hooley says the group expects to see continued growth in travel for major sports events and concerts in 2025 such as the Formula One Grand Prix, Vivid Sydney and the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
. . . Destination
Oaks’ top destinations for 2024 were Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin, Glenelg, Perth, Broome, Sunshine Coast, Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley. During summer holiday peaks Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland were the most popular; Nelson Bay and Glenelg were high on the festive wish list, and in winter, Darwin is among the top sought-after spots.
