Viking’s New 2027 India River Plans

Viking is India-bound, announcing plans to sail the Brahmaputra River from late 2027, and a custom-built ship is already under construction.

The cruise line’s ceo and chairman Torstein Hagen says Viking guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on its ocean itineraries in recent years “We are now delighted to introduce a new way for curious travellers to explore the heart of this phenomenal country, in-depth and in Viking comfort.” The 80-guest ship, the Viking Brahmaputra, will sail between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat as part of a new 15-day itinerary that combines an eight-day cruise with a guided land program with overnights in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. The three-deck ship will feature Viking’s signature Scandinavian design, with 40 outside staterooms and suites, all with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a veranda. Amenities will include a spa and fitness center and an open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck.

. . . The Cruise

The new 15-day Wonders of India itinerary will sail round-trip ex Delhi, with hotel stays in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur either side of the eight-day Brahmaputra River voyage. Viking says there are 13 tours included, visiting as many as 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Taj Mahal, Old Delhi and Jaipur’s Palace of Winds, as well as Guwahati’s temple and Kaziranga National Park. The cruise line will also offer new pre- and post-land extensions for Wonders of India, including a two-night option in Delhi, a four-night option in Kathmandu and a five-night option exploring Cochin and Mumbai.
