Universal Destinations & Experiences has revealed plans to build its first European theme park and resort which will be in Bedford in the UK.
While planning consent approvals are still pending, the development will span 476-acres, including a theme park with several themed lands which Universal claims will feature it’s ‘distinct brand of immersive storytelling, thrilling rides, innovative attractions and exciting entertainment’. Initial resort plans also feature a 500- room hotel and a retail, dining and entertainment complex. A planning proposal will be submitted to UK Government in the coming months with a projected construction start date of 2026, and a planned opening date in 2031. Bedford has been chosen for its proximity to London which is around an hour and a half via car, or about 30 mins by train.
. . . Lands
The franchises that will feature have yet to be confirmed, but that has not stopped speculation. The BBC, citing a source close to the Universal UK project, reports that James Bond, Paddington and Lord of the Rings are among the brands set to appear at the park, as well as Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and Minions. Harry Potter is not expected to feature.
