QR Crises Response

Qatar Airways’ ceo Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer has issued a heartfelt thank-you to its travel partners, and the thousands of passengers who have travelled with the carrier this week, in the wake of this week’s events above Qatar.

“My sincere appreciation goes to our teams across the airline, and to our partners around the world, for their immense efforts around the clock over the past few days,” Al-Meer (pictured) says in a statement. “Faced with an extraordinary challenge, we came together to support our passengers, recover our network, and return our operations to normal. The professionalism and unity on display reflect the very best of what our airline group and our partners stand for.” he says the carrier faced an operational crisis few airlines will ever encounter, one that challenged the very core of what it means to run a global airline.

The closure of Qatari airspace on Mon, and suspension of QR flights, meant more than 90 QR flights carrying more than 20,000 passengers to Doha were forced to divert. Aacross the world more than 151 QR flights were immediately disrupted. As airspace re-opened on Tue, QR operated 390 flights with those passengers from diverted flights cleared within 24 hours. As of 25 Jun, Al-Meer says there were no passengers from diverted flights left stranded with 578 scheduled flights operating. “Within just 18 hours, our scheduled operations had resumed,” he says. “This scale and speed of recovery reflects the depth of experience, planning, and commitment we’re proud to uphold at QR.” Millions of passengers place their trust in QR to carry them across borders, continents, and time zones, and Al-Meer says that trust is not taken lightly. “Thank you for continuing to place that trust in us.”
