Buoyed by increased demand and an improved performance, Qantas has announced plans to upgrade its fleet as it reports an AUD1.4 billion underlying profit before tax, up 11% year-on-year, for the six months to 31 Dec.
QF and Jetstar’s domestic and international business achieved increased profitability carrying almost 10% more passengers, adds the carrier. At he same time QF says JQ’s earnings were up 35% as its new fleet reaches scale.
QF has 11 new aircraft delivered in the first half of the year, and seven more aircraft expected by Jun. The carrier has announced a major cabin upgrade program for its 737 fleet with new seats, entire cabin refresh and larger overhead lockers. The carrier’s first A321XLR is now scheduled to arrive in Jun, two months later than previously expected, and QF will be one of he first airlines to operate the plane type.
The group says the A321XLR offers more comfortable economy seats, a 66% increase in business class seats, a quieter flight, a long and wide spacious cabin, extra-large overhead lockers and fast free wifi.
