The positive impact of travel has been highlighted in a new report, released this week by Planeterra.
The G Adventure non-profit’s 2024 Impact Report found that its travel company partners last year earned communities USD2.1 million, across 51 countries and benefitting more than 30,000 people. Another 191,764 indirectly benefitted, including household and community members of community partners, who now have better access to education, healthcare, housing and more, it adds.
. . . Climate Too
The report points out Planeterra and its partners grew 2.6 million trees last year, and 88 communities are benefitting from climate and biodiversity initiatives. Some 63% of Planeterra’s community partners are reconnecting people and nature, 59% are protecting animals and their welfare, 87% are supporting sustainable value chains and 59% are investing in nature. Jamie Sweeting, president of Planeterra, says the report is testament to the transformative power of community tourism. “It unequivocally shows that when travellers choose to engage with local communities, they’re not just taking a trip—they’re contributing to a more sustainable, equitable, and enriching future for all.”
