Norwegian Cruise Line is highlighting its itineraries with overnight stays for clients looking to delve a little deeper into a destination, and the cruise line’s vp and md for Asia Pacific Ben Angell has revealed his personal favourites.
Topping his list of destinations best explored after dark is Papeete, which features on Norwegian Sun’s 14-day South Pacific sailing: French Polynesia and Hawai‘i, ex Honolulu on 17 Sep. The cruise overnights in Papeete, allowing guests to take a sunset stroll along the waterfront, check out live music and dance performances, or take a romantic dinner under the stars. In Bangkok, the 15-day Asia: Hong Kong & Thailand ex Taipei on 17 Nov offers guests more than 30 hours in port. This means there’s time to see the city’s golden temples, night markets and floating markets, and take a romantic Chao Phraya River dinner cruise. Maui and Kaua’i tie in third, with overnight stays on both islands featured on Pride of America’s weekly seven-day Inter-island Hawaiian itinerary. There’s 34 hours in Maui’s Kahului, allowing for guests to experience both late-night Hawaiian luaus and the sunrise over Haleakalā. In Nāwiliwili, there’s more than 32 hours to hike, kayak and cycle the Garden Isle. Reykjavik has a 24-hour stop featured on the 11-day Northern Europe: Iceland, Scotland & Norway ex Southampton on 10 May. This gives guests enough time to day trip to the Golden Circle and see the dramatic Gullfoss Waterfall, or to experience the geothermal Sky Lagoon at midnight. Copenhagen rounds out the list, starring on the nine-day Baltic: Germany, Sweden & Poland ex Helsinki on 26 Jul. Have clients make the most of an overnight stay with a visit to Amalienborg Palace and Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks which NCL says is beautifully illuminated after dark.
