Acting Minister of Transport, the Hon James Meager, says he wants air passengers in New Zealand to enjoy accessible, safe, and efficient air travel services.

“That’s why one of the key actions of the Aviation Action Plan, which I launched jointly with the sector last year, is to strengthen passengers’ consumer rights and improve accessibility for disabled travellers,” he adds.
As part of this, Meager says the Ministry of Transport is developing fulsome advice for the acting minister ‘which includes (but is not limited to) a comparison of how other countries approach information disclosure for air passengers, information on how this is already being approached by airlines in practice and proposed next steps from here’.
“This work, which is due within the next month, will then inform whether regulatory action is needed to improve transparency and support for better outcomes for passengers.”
The Civil Aviation Act 2023 has powers which allow for the creation of regulations requiring aviation sector participants to disclose information about passenger rights.
“This transparency is important for improving service and ensuring passengers are well-informed,” he adds.
