The Gold Coast, Tokyo and Rarotonga are the destinations tipped to see an influx of Kiwis over the coming school holidays.
The trio join Sydney and Nadi as the five most-searched destinations on Booking.com over two weeks in Jul, for travel over the Sep school holiday period. Also in demand was Seminyak, London, Melbourne, Brisbane and Paris, which make up the top 10. The top 25 saw Asia and Australian destinations reign supreme, with it featuring Ubud, Singapore, Bangkok, Canggu, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua, Port Dougles, Mooloolaba, Osaka, Perth and Nusa Lembongan, as well as Kuta. Honorable mentions go to New York in 16th, Dubai sitting in 20th, and Rome, 21st. The destinations seeing the biggest rises included Perth, with searches up a massive 90%, as well as Port Douglas which recorded an 80% increase on the prior year. Nusa Dua and Nadi also proved popular, seeing a 60% increase in searches. Queenstown once again claimed top spot for Kiwis looking at domestic travel, followed by Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington, though the regions saw some strong growth. In fact, Rotorua was the fifth most searched for spot, with Taupo, Wanaka, Dunedin, Tauranga and Hamilton making up the top 10. Movers and shakers included Paihia and Blenheim, with searches on the year prior up 100% and 70%, respectively.
