HX Unveils A ‘New’ MS Spitsbergen

HX Expeditions’ MS Spitsbergen is sailing in the Arctic again, following a multi-million refurbishment.

Highlights of the work include the 220-guest ship’s newly built Science Center on Deck 6, which features interactive screens, flexible lecture space, a small library, and dedicated workstations for citizen science. Last year HX supported 32 research projects, and HX’s chief scientist Dr. Verena Meraldi says this new Science Center will allow the cruise line to deepen this scientific impact. Also new is informal brasserie-inspired dining space Brygga Bistro on Deck 5, which offers guests a more flexible and relaxed dining alternative between landings or after excursions. The expedition cruise line has also modernised public spaces, including The Explorer Lounge & Bar, with the Explorer Bar now also serving HX’s new Signature Cocktail Range. Crew areas and dining facilities have been expanded for greater comfort, and the ship also boasts refurbished ADA-compliant bathrooms and interpretation systems to improve inclusivity and access across the ship. The overhaul is part of HX’s EUR7 million investment across MS Spitsbergen and sister ship MS Fram.
