G Adventure’s Indo Trip Expansion

G Adventures has expanded its Indonesia collection with 20 new trips that promise to take clients off the beaten track to explore lesser-known areas of the country, as the operator notes Bali’s struggles with overtourism.

The classic-style trips also boast impactful community initiatives allowing clients to give back to the areas being visited, it adds. G Adventures vp product Yves Marceau says Indonesia is undoubtedly a popular tourism destination, but most travel opportunities in the region focus on Bali and Lombok, while other locations and communities remain unseen. “We wanted to revamp our trips to the country, and create entirely new ones, to give travellers the chance to spend more time at community projects in well-known islands, or travel deeper in the country, taking them much further off the beaten path.”

The move, he adds, brings the benefits of tourism income to other parts of Indonesia, while also giving travellers the opportunity to be adventurous, and learn from the communities that live there.

. . . The Trips

The 20 new trips can be combined back-to-back, and there are also longer 21- to 29-day itineraries. Highlighted additions include the nine-day Sulawesi Adventure: The Culture of Tana Toraja, priced from $2439pp, which explore villages with traditional cliffside tombs, the Torajan people and their stories.

Wildlife lovers can opt for the seven-day Indonesia: Borneo Orangutans of Tanjung Puting National Park which includes a visit to the Tanjung Harapan Orangutan Rehabilitation Center for orphaned orangutans. Prices start from $2579pp.
