Exploring Korea’s Culture & Cuisine

Some Kiwi agents got to experience firsthand why Korea’s popularity amongst Kiwis continues to rise, with a famil that took in its culture and food.

The Korea Tourism Organization hosted the famil, led by Darragh Walshe, who was quick to praise the destination’s accessibility, people, its sense of safety, and the food. “Korea is such a vibrant country with a unique blend of ancient heritage alongside the modern sophistication and globally famous K-culture. . . Oh, and did I mention the food?” The farm-to-table gochujang-making experience, and learning how to make somaek, a mix of beer and soju, were among the culinary highlights for the group. “The variety and quality of food exceeded the high expectations, including the opportunity to make our own gochujang under the tutorship of a local rice farmer,” says Walshe.

The famil explored Busan, Seoul and Gyeongju. Highlights included Gyeongbokgung Palace, Busan’s white sandy beaches and markets, and exploring Gyeongju’s history and nature. “We also had plenty of experiences of Korea’s globally recognised K-culture along the way from K-pop to K-beauty,” adds Walshe.
