From rainforests to a tropical reef, there’s plenty to do around Cairns—and Tourism Tropical North Queensland has shared 10 day trip ideas for Kiwis heading to the region.
Crystal Cascades is located 20 minutes from CNS, offering rainforest walkways to waterfalls such as the magical Fairy Falls. Also worth a visit is Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets, open Wed-Sun, selling hand-crafted wares from local artists, art and homemade products. The seaside village of Palm Cove also makes the list, catering to those seeking a beach day or a spa day. Fourth is Ravenshoe, Queensland’s highest town, where clients can explore Millstream Falls and dine at Queensland’s Highest Pub at the Ravenshoe Hotel. The Waterfall Circuit is also recommended, exploring Millaa Millaa Falls as well as Zillie Falls and Ellinjaa Falls. Keen hikers can head out and spend the day at Lambs Head near Davies Creek, which offers views over Lake Morris and the Atherton Tablelands. A day trip to Davies Creek Falls is also recommended, home to what TTNQ says is a stunning infinity pool on the top of the falls. Also worth a mention is a visit to the world’s oldest surviving rainforest on a day trip to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation, with clients encouraged to add on tours by Jungle Tours & Trekking or Billy Tea Safaris. On the coast, clients can head out to Great Barrier Reef Drive, known as one of Australia’s most beautiful drives, journeying from Palm Cove to Port Douglas. Rounding out the list is a day out on the water, taking a Great Adventures ferry and cruise to Green Island, a coral cay 27km off the CNS shore.
