Keen expedition cruisers will have the chance to be part of history, as Ponant announces that Le Commandant Charcot will embark on a circumnavigation of Antarctica in 2028.
The cruise, said to be a world first, will be done in two stages, the first spanning 30 days and sailing ex Ushuaia to Hobart. After a two-day stopover, the ship will sail for 34 days along nearly 18,000kms of Antarctica’s coastline, which the cruise line notes is larger than Europe. Ponant Captain Étienne Garcia, who helped create this itinerary, says guests will witness the immense forces of nature at play. “It’s a privilege to help them experience how we humbly engage with the elements, the wind, the sea, the ice, bringing us as close as possible to the marvels of the natural world.” Sales are scheduled to open in Dec.
