New York City has welcomed a host of new eateries over recent months, and the city’s tourism organisation has shortlisted its top picks list of those that are worth recommending.
In Crown Heights Lisbonata is a bakery famed for its Portuguese eggs tarts. While Maple Creamery is home to alkaline, vegan and organic ice cream. In Astoria Massi’s sandwich shop serves up flavours including vodka chicken parm and Philly cheesesteak. While across in Queens, new spots include Karachi Kabab Boiz, offering Pakistani street food, as well as Makina Café, serving Ethiopian Eritrean food (recommend the springy injera). For a bite that gives back Nourish, in Bronx is a café where all profits are donated to the Bronx-based nonprofit Oyate Group which supports youth in the Bronx. An honourable mention also goes to Central Perk Coffee House in Times Square, catering to Friends fans.
. . . Manhattan
Palladino’s Steak & Seafood has opened in Grand Central Terminal, while on the Upper West Side, Brasserie Boulud has opened, spanning two floors and featuring a central bar, speakeasy and more. Also notable is Mommy Pai’s in Nolita, a new fast casual takeout window serving chicken fingers, and Chinatown’s Binondo, serving Filipino Chinese cuisine, with standout items such as egg drop soup.
