G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip is not known for doing things by halves—and over the weekend he celebrated 35 years of operation, by announcing new luxury tours with National Geographic, plans to launch overland tours in South America, unveiled a new book on community tourism and launched a new global ambassador program.
The news was announced over the course of the GX Jordan event, which brought together 700 people from around the globe to experience the G Adventures product and to celebrate community tourism initiatives.
The global showcase culminated in a summit in Amman for World Tourism Day which showcased community tourism leaders and youth tourism leaders (including Poon Tip’s daughters).
“So one thing that GX is about for us is to show everybody that we still have a lot of gas in the tank,” Poon Tip told Travel Today. “We might be the biggest, and we might be the pioneers in what we do, but we still know that we’re the global communities in the space and we still have a lot of gas to take in.”

For New Zealand agents says the company’s md Australia, New Zealand and Asia Sean Martin the big news is its National Geographic Signature [NGS] by G Adventures for the international market.
“The National Geographic brand is the world’s most recognised and trusted travel brand and shares so many values with New Zealand. That’s why we are so excited about bringing it to New Zealand for the first time ever. The brand stands for exploration, conservation and storytelling. Who doesn’t love those things?”
Martin says luxury can mean different things to people, and this is where agents can come in and match their clients with the product. “For us it’s not about creature comforts. At NGS by G Adventures we think about the luxury of the experience.”
