The vast majority of younger Australasians are using travel to boost their mental health, shows a new poll.
The Klook Travel Pulse Survey 2025 found that 84% of Gen Z and 88% of Millennial Aussies polled say the main reason for travelling is to improve their mood or mental state. At the same time the poll showed that 61% of the two groups as a whole say they’re willing to allocate half their travel budget to experiences. Gen Z is also significantly more likely to view travel as an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery (26%) compared to all people (16%). And 40% of the combined Gen Z/Millennial group say they feel motivated to plan their next getaway fix within as little as a month after returning from a trip, such is the compelling therapeutic power of travel. Henry Hooper Klook’s md Oceania, UK and The Americas says that among these groups, curated travel can be beneficial to people’s self-care and therefore is an effective form of therapy for many. “While we already understand younger generations in the pursuit of happiness are placing greater value on lifestyle and experiences over owning ‘things’, it’s probably not surprising Klook’s survey highlights that travel has become a ‘must-have’ rather than a ‘nice-to-have’ fixture in the calendar for so many Gen Z and Millennial Aussies and Kiwis,” he says. The annual survey questioned 7000 respondents across 14 markets.
