World Journeys celebrated the company’s 18th birthday yesterday and recapped on its evolving product offering but continued focus on the discerning Kiwi traveller.
“A lot has changed in the past 18 years with advances in technology, the growth of the luxury market etc let alone the growth in our destination knowledge which comes from our own personal travels,” says director Chris Lyons. ‘But some things, too, remain the same.” The company offers a personalised service, and high-quality documentation ‘[and] you’d be surprised how grateful agents are for that offering’, adds Lyons. World Journeys first specialised in Africa, South America, India and the Middle East before expanding over the years to include Asia, Europe, North America, and the polar regions. “Clearly some of those destinations have waxed and waned over the years as conflicts and natural disasters have come and gone, but ultimately, we still focus on destinations we love and know well,” says Lyons. “A welcome development has been the growing awareness of the benefits of low-volume, highvalue travel. That, and the growing popularity of luxury rail travel—it’s our biggest trend right now.” Lyons notes that the challenges of C-19 only made it stronger and attributes the company’s success to its ‘incredible team of dedicated professionals’ and agents’ support.
